Wherever you are, whatever casts a shadow over you this minute will last only this season. Change is imminent. It may be slow and seemingly threatened by all of these purveyors of hopelessness and these detractors from the truth, but it is coming. There is so much happening in the world; man is busy. Turmoil greets us every dawn. It seems the world sways back and forth like the tide ebbs and flows. Noise and confusion, illness, strife, war, all of these leave us discouraged. Yet, I dare say, fight! It’s just a crazy season; stand tall and hold your head up high. We shall prevail.

Recent happenings have sparked glimmers of hope for many and opened up airways and pathways again. Voids left gaping by the savagery of this pandemic have left so many suffering tremendous losses. Other hearts have been made hollow by fear and insecurity. Many have come to know frustrations and uncertainty. Your Spring shall come, and your Summer even brighter than before. We are beginning to see hints of Spring even as the days darken and get shorter. I speak not of the physical seasons but of a forward spring in our consciousness that feels less intense and senses a lightening of the load. Our country in her new dawn is rising, and we must grow to meet her with clarity of spirit that signals not an obliteration of the painful memories but a welcoming of the delightful possibilities.

Fall is my favorite time of the year. Not because we get to eat turkey or drink unbelievable amounts of Cabernet, but because we get to be thankful. In this most critical time of loss and strife, we show our gratitude for life and love when reason says we must lose faith in it, in the goodness of humankind when evidence shows we must lose hope.

Often in the chaos of our despair, we resort to self-indictment. We must choose instead to turn self-doubt into self-discovery. Look within. There is so much pleasure in uncovering oneself. However, it is an art that quickly escapes us in moments of confusion. Being hoisted into the bliss of a pure mental space allows for uninhibited iterations, fearless perspectives, with only enough room to share truth; that is indeed the beauty of self-reflection. Reveling in this space inspires me to not only find realities I’d forgotten existed but to celebrate the fortitude that resides in my absolute conviction to making them come true. It is well.
